We are living longer. For many of us, that means planning for another 20 or 30 years.
So the question isn't simply, “Should I sell my home?”
A better question is:
Will my home, finances and lifestyle continue to support the way I want to live?
For longtime homeowners, downsizing may mean fewer responsibilities, greater financial flexibility, easier access to family and friends, and a home better suited to the years ahead.
And sometimes, after considering all the options, staying exactly where you are is the right answer.
That's why I don't think the conversation should begin with selling a house.
It should begin with how you want to live.
