One of the biggest misconceptions about downsizing is that planning for a future move means you have decided to move.
IT DOESN’T. Planning simply means understanding your options while they are still yours to make. First and foremost it's about mindset, not finances.
Where would you want to live?
What would you want your next chapter to look like?
What would you keep?
What responsibilities would you happily leave behind?
When these decisions are made before a health issue or family crisis, you remain in control of the timing, the destination and the process. You may ultimately decide to stay in your longtime home, and that's a perfectly good plan, too.
The important thing is that the decision is yours.
Planning preserves choices. Waiting can reduce them.
